Gold Medal Leadership

I was grateful to attend several of the Olympic events in Paris this summer. It was truly an awesome experience, unlike any sporting event I’ve ever been to. You can feel the energy and the competitiveness in the arenas, and also a sense of community and comraderie among the represented countries.

As the athletes came out to compete, what struck me is the enormous honor and responsibility they carry by representing their countries.

It's not so different in leadership. As a leader, you carry a huge responsibility to your organization, your team, and other stakeholders.

Just because there are no gold medals for great leadership, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't strive to lead at our best.

And there’s no greater example than our Olympians to guide us in lessons of leadership.

They are working towards a goal, share a commitment to excellence, and don’t give up. They thrive on teamwork and are dialed into their emotional intelligence skills to help them overcome adversities and adapt if needed. They celebrate successes and learn from failures.

The stories that come out of the Olympic Games are about so much more than winning. Every athlete and team bring a story of perseverance, leadership, and resilience.

Here are 5 leadership lessons gleamed from this summer's Olympians. By integrating these lessons into your leadership practices, you can cultivate a high-performing, resilient, and motivated team, much like the world's best athletes.

Don't wait to start your medal-worthy leadership training, and I'm here to help if you need a coach along the way.
